About CSTI

National Taiwan University (NTU) Center for Science and Technology Informetrics (CSTI) is funded by Ministry of Education and Ministry of Science and Technology of R.O.C., Taiwan, under the Higher Education Sprout project, and has been established since 2018 by Prof. Dar-Zen Chen, Graduate Institutes of Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering, and Prof. Mu-Hsuan Huang, Graduate Institute of Library and Information Science. CSTI is currently also a member of NTU’s Center for Research in Econometric Theory and Applications (CRETA).

Goal

Mission

To achieve the above objectives, CSTI has the following missions, other than Scientometrics-related teaching and research:

  1. Constructing various S&T databases;
  2. Assisting government agencies in the planning, evaluation, and management of S&T policies;
  3. Supporting academic research projects related to Scientometrics; and
  4. Providing analytical and investigative services to industry, government, and academia

Features

In contrast to other similar research organizations, CSTI has the following distinct features:

  1. Integration of research and technology data. CSTI is able to construct a comprehensive S&T reality by leveraging not only traditional bibliometric data but also patent, litigation, and researcher data;
  2. Evidence-based research methodologies.CSTI always requires that all of her research is rigorously examined and verified by empirical data; and
  3. Emphasis on practical applicability.CSTI constantly focuses on the applicability of her research methodologies to real-world topics and issues.
